Mad Creek

Below are a couple proposed projects planned for the Mad Creek Network including connections to Buffalo Pass.  If you have time to look them over and notice anything we might have missed to make them better, please let us know by filling out the comments.  There are many reasons why the projects are proposed the way we have them, but that does not mean an idea you come up with will not make them better.  We are open to constructive criticism (if you think the project could be improved) and praise (if you like the project as described & mapped).  We will not be able to respond to all comments but rest assured that if you take the time to give us your feed back, we will take the time to consider your suggestions.

Mad Creek Unauthorized Trails

posted Nov 24, 2012, 4:04 PM by Eric Meyer   [ updated Mar 4, 2013, 11:22 AM ]

Project Description: These unauthorized trails are not part of the Forest Service’s System of Trails.  Trail work and possible re-routes are needed to make this network sustainable and worthy of inclusion into a sanctioned trail system.  The Forest Service has requested assistance in this regard and has ultimate authority in determining if, or when these trails will be included in the system.  As trail stewards we do not condone the construction of these unauthorized trails, but rather wish to work with our land managers to alleviate resource damage on our public lands.

Red Dirt to Swamp Park Trail

posted Nov 24, 2012, 4:04 PM by Eric Meyer   [ updated Mar 4, 2013, 11:23 AM ]

Project Description:

The primary purpose of this project is to provide a connection between  existing Swap Park Trail (near where it enters the Mount Zirkel Wilderness) to the Red Dirt trail (near where it enters Mount Zirkel Wilderness).

Project Specific Benefits:

  • Reduce potential trespass into Mount Zirkel Wilderness by providing a connection between two out-and-back trails.
  • Reduce trail user conflict by creating more of a stacked loop system which reduces trail user interactions.
